Astros vs. Blue Jays Prediction, Odds & Expert Picks: MLB Best Bets for Sept. 9

Last Updated: September 9, 2025 9:20 AM EDT • 4 minute read X Social Google News Link

Both the Houston Astros and Toronto Blue Jays have been locked in offensively as of late, something I’m expecting more of for my Astros vs. Blue Jays prediction. First pitch for the series opener is set for 7:07 p.m. ET (Sportsnet, SCHN) on Tuesday night from Rogers Centre in Toronto.
My MLB picks like Astros slugger Yordan Alvarez to continue his recent torrid stretch at the plate, and I’m supporting the Over on one of his player props.

🔥 Over 8.5 runs (-110) ⭐⭐⭐
The Astros and Blue Jays have both been prolific at the plate over the last five games. The Blue Jays are second in MLB in runs per game (7.2) over that stretch, while the Astros sit seventh (5.6).
The Blue Jays have been a terrific offensive club on home field all season, ranking third in wRC+ (121), tied for fourth in runs scored (367), and third in OPS (.794).
The Astros, meanwhile, are a completely different team with Alvarez in the lineup. I like the opportunity to back two hot-hitting teams at a stadium that’s fifth in runs and third in home runs in 2025, per Baseball Savant’s Park Factors leaderboard.
One of the best sports betting sites, BetMGM, offers -110 odds on the Over, which nets out a profit of $9.09 on a $10 bet. The -110 odds have an implied probability of 52.38%.

⬆️ Yordan Alvarez Over 1.5 hits, runs, and RBI (-120) ⭐⭐⭐
Yordan Alvarez has historically enjoyed his time at Rogers Centre, slashing .326/.456/.826 with seven home runs, 16 runs scored, and 16 RBI in 14 games.
The Blue Jays haven’t announced their starting pitcher for Tuesday’s game as of this writing. If Jose Berrios ultimately takes the mound, Alvarez has managed only three hits in 16 at-bats against the right-hander, though two of those hits were home runs.
A $10 wager on Alvarez’s Over pays out a profit of $8.33 at Caesars. The -120 odds have an implied probability of 54.55%.

How do baseball odds work?
When betting on MLB, the run line shows how many runs the favorite needs to win by in order to cash the bet. For example, a favorite of -1.5 must win by two or more runs to cover the run line, while an underdog at +1.5 must win outright or lose by one run to cover the run line.
Moneyline odds represent the payout for picking the outright winner (+200 means a $100 bet wins $200, while -200 means a $200 bet wins $100). Over/Unders let you wager on whether the combined total of runs will be higher or lower than the set number.
