🤠 Texas A&M +6.5 (-110) ⭐⭐⭐

The biggest question when it comes to an early Texas A&M vs. Notre Dame best bet is if one walked away encouraged by how Fighting Irish quarterback CJ Carr fared in his first collegiate start or worried about how Miami pushed Notre Dame around in the trenches. I steer more toward the latter, which is why I am backing the Aggies at the near touchdown spread.

There are plenty of factors supporting Notre Dame in this matchup. It has a rest advantage with a week off to correct what went wrong in its 27-24 loss to Miami, and Carr should be much more comfortable in front of his home fans than in a raucous road environment. Notre Dame also won 23-13 in College Station last year to jumpstart its path to the College Football Playoff.

However, last year’s Aggies team that faced the Fighting Irish was a much more vanilla offensive squad that did not utilize Marcel Reed’s unique skill set until later in the year. Reed already has accounted for eight touchdowns this season with a 7-0 TD-INT ratio.

The sophomore quarterback is in line for a big game against a Fighting Irish defense that did not force a turnover in Week 1 and only got home for one sack on Hurricanes quarterback Carson Beck, who had plenty of time in the pocket on most throws.

This would become a much more confident four-star play if the line ever ticks back up to +7 or higher. Thus, even though the current line of +6.5 has a 52.38% implied probability and would return a respectable $9.09 in profits on a winning $10 wager, bettors may be wise to exercise patience to see if the home favorites get support throughout the week before looking into alternate spread lines for better value.

🔍 Texas A&M vs. Notre Dame odds analysis

Prior to any Week 1 games kicking off, Notre Dame was a 7.5-point betting favorite across the best sports betting sites. Now this line has come down through the key number of seven, where it opened this week, to 6.5, as perhaps recency bias with Notre Dame having a bye is keeping Fighting Irish backers away.

The total has seen a two-point increase from 48.5 to 50.5 across our best sports betting apps. The fact that these two teams combined for just 36 points in last year’s matchup is likely to lower the ceiling for how high this line will go. I expect 51 to be the absolute ceiling for this O/U, as Notre Dame scored 17 of its 24 points in its opener in just the fourth quarter.

How do college football odds work?

When betting on college football odds, the point spread shows how many points the favorite needs to win by in order to cash the bet. For example, a favorite of -3 must win by more than 3 points to cover the spread, while an underdog at +3 must win outright or lose by fewer than 3 points to cover the spread.

Moneyline odds represent the payout for picking the outright winner (+200 means a $100 bet wins $200, while -200 means a $200 bet wins $100). Over/Unders let you wager on whether the combined total will be higher or lower than the set number.
